The Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has commended prominent Nigerian businessman Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, for boosting private sector investment in Delta State’s capital.
He described the entrepreneur’s growing presence as a key driver of economic growth and urban development in Asaba.
The monarch made the remarks while receiving Obi Cubana and his team during a courtesy visit to the Asagba Palace, where discussions focused on positioning Asaba as a top investment hub.
He noted that the scale of investments led by Obi Cubana covering real estate, hospitality, and lifestyle infrastructure is transforming the city’s landscape, increasing investor confidence, and stimulating economic activities. According to him, such initiatives have wide-reaching benefits, including job creation, increased commercial activity, and attracting fresh investments into the area.
The Asagba also pointed out that Asaba is steadily emerging as a competitive urban centre in Nigeria, driven by a fast-growing hospitality sector and a surge in major development projects. While acknowledging the progress of cities like Abuja, he said Asaba is quickly becoming a strong alternative, rivalled mainly by Lagos in terms of commercial vibrancy.
Highlighting future prospects, he referenced major projects like the proposed 351-hectare waterfront development, “Legacy of the Sun,” as well as Asaba’s strategic location near Onitsha and its role within the broader eastern economic corridor. These, he said, position the city at the heart of regional growth.
He further stressed the importance of technology and innovation, citing collaborations with federal agencies and institutions such as the Digital Bridge Institute and Admiralty University, Ibusa, alongside emerging tech hubs supported by both public and private sectors. According to him, these efforts are laying the groundwork for a thriving tech and innovation ecosystem.
Reaffirming the role of the traditional institution, the Asagba assured that the Asaba community is open to investors and ready to support partnerships that will drive development. He emphasized that growth is a collective effort, not solely dependent on government.
In his response, Obi Cubana expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirmed his commitment to sustainable investments. He explained that his projects, including Cubana Millennium City and the upcoming Cubana Wonderland, are designed not just for profit but to create integrated spaces where people can live, work, and enjoy modern lifestyle experiences.
