The footballing fever in Gbaramatu Kingdom reached new heights on Tuesday, April 7, as the 2026 Amaseikumor Football Tournament produced a series of high-stakes encounters at the Oporoza community pitch.
Organized by the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), Day 2 of the competition saw several teams clinch their tickets to the quarter-finals, setting the stage for an intense knockout phase in the coming days.
The day was defined by disciplined defending and clinical finishing.
In the first major clash, Ogulagha FC managed to silence the home crowd by edging out Oporoza FC in a tense 1–0 victory.
The narrow margin was mirrored in the second fixture, where Gbaramatu Urban FC secured their progression with a 1–0 win over a resilient Ndokwa National FC.
The most action-packed game of the afternoon featured Ngbilebiri FC and Kabowei FC.
In a back-and-forth contest, Ngbilebiri ultimately triumphed 2–1, though Kabowei’s spirited performance ensured their place in the next round as one of the top contenders.
The latest qualifiers join Isoko National FC, Tubutoru FC, and Egbema FC, who had already secured their spots during Day 1 of the tournament.
Beyond the action on the pitch, the tournament received a major boost in prestige with the official unveiling of the tournament jersey.
The ceremony was performed by the Positarewei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief (Hon.) Simeon Bebenimibo, JP, who reiterated his commitment to using sports as a vehicle for youth development and peace in the region.
The event also drew several notable figures, including the former Speaker of the GYC Parliament, Barr. Frank Ekpemupolo, who joined hundreds of enthusiastic spectators to cheer on the local talent.
As the tournament enters Day 3, the focus shifts to the “best losers” category—a second chance for teams to stay in the hunt for the trophy.
On Wednesday, April 8, Gbaramatu Zone FC is scheduled to face off against Isaba FC in what promises to be a “do-or-die” encounter.
The Amaseikumor Football Tournament has quickly become a cornerstone of community engagement in the Gbaramatu Kingdom.
By bringing together teams from various ethnic nationalities and zones across Delta State, the GYC continues to foster a sense of brotherhood and sportsmanship that transcends the game itself.
As the quarter-final bracket takes shape, the road to the final in Oporoza is becoming clearer and the stakes have never been higher for the remaining teams.
