Delta Police Intensify Efforts to Rescue Abducted Sapele LG Chairman

The Delta State Police Command has stepped up operations to secure the safe release of the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Abeke, who was abducted by unknown gunmen on Friday 10 April 2026.

The Sapele Local Government Council Chairman was kidnapped at the Debro Fred Guest House in Sapele after the attackers opened fire during the operation, injuring at least one security aide and a vigilante member.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe on Saturday 11 April, 2026, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, led an on the spot assessment to bolster the search and rescue efforts.

The Commissioner who was accompanied by senior police officers, visited key locations linked to the abduction, including the Debro Fred Guest House where the incident occurred and the Ogorode Waterside, where the vehicle allegedly used by the kidnappers was recovered.

“The Commissioner personally inspected the scene of the abduction at Debro Fred Guest House to gain first-hand situational awareness. He also proceeded to Ogorode Waterside, where the operational vehicle was recovered, to direct intelligence exploitation and forensic investigation,” the statement said.

CP Oyeniyi assured residents of the state that the command, working closely with other security agencies, was acting on credible intelligence to track the perpetrators and rescue the victim unharmed.

He appealed to residents of Sapele and the entire Delta State to remain vigilant and provide timely, actionable information to security operatives, emphasising that public support remains critical to the success of the ongoing operation.

The Commissioner also visited the wife of the abducted chairman, assuring the family of the police command’s unwavering commitment to securing his release.

He also stopped by the hospital where victims injured in the attack are receiving treatment, to ascertain their condition and offer support.

According to the statement, Delta State police have cordoned off major entry and exit points in the area as part of intensified efforts to apprehend the culprits.
