As part of efforts to transform the state’s transportation sector, Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has commissioned a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Asaba, established in partnership with NIPCO Gas Limited.
Governor Oborevwori who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Kingsley Emu, described the project as a critical foundation for Delta’s shift to CNG-powered transportation.
He said the benefit of CNG powered vehicles cannot be overemphasized especially with the fluctuating price of PMS due to US-Iran crises.
“This marks a significant step towards providing a cheaper and more sustainable alternative to petrol for our people,” Emu said on behalf of the Governor.
Governor Oborevwori disclosed that the state government remains open to more partnerships with private investors to expand the CNG network across Delta, including the deployment of CNG-powered buses and tricycles.
He added that the stations would function as both dispensing outlets and conversion centres, allowing vehicle owners to convert their petrol engines to run on CNG which he noted would significantly reduce the cost of transportation for residents.
The Delta State government also commissioned a similar CNG Conversion and Refilling Station in Warri.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon Onoriede Agofure, said the initiative represents a bold leap into the future for Delta’s transport system.
He described the project as a game-changer that will introduce cleaner and more affordable energy, while easing the burden on commuters and transport operators.
“This is a clear reflection of the MORE Agenda in action driving sustainability, innovation, and progress across the state,” Agofure stated.
Hon. Agofure urged the public to support the government in its bid to provide cleaner fuel alternatives and bring relief to motorists and residents in the state.
