The Center for Peace and Environmental Justice CEPEJ, in collaboration with Warri Peace Community Support Initiative, the Delta Civil Society Forum and the Itsekiri youths in Warri Kingdom have taken the sermon of Peace in Warri to stakeholders, youths and residents of Warri Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
National Coordinator CEPEJ Comrade Sheriff Mulade said that the Peace Building Awareness Creation for Peaceful Coexistence in Warri Federal Constituency Program was geared towards propagating the gospel of Peace among the Itsekiris in Warri Kingdom.
The event which had its theme Restore Warri Past Glory was attended by, community leaders and youths from the various communities of the Itsekiris in Warri Kingdom, Warri South Local Government council amongst other concerned stakeholders.
The National Coordinator CEPEJ Comrade Sheriff Mulade while addressing the people recalled the flourishing days in Warri where businesses were striving before the recent crisis which has affected the growth and development of Warri City.
Comrade Mulade a Prominent Chief from ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West local government area, said that the political class, traditional fathers, concerned stakeholders as well as Religious leaders need to come together to change the ugly narrative by enduring the restoration of Warri lost glory, which in turn will lead to the rapid sustainable growth of the land.
He emphasized on the importance of education and urged the youths to embrace education and refrain from the habits of being used by wicked leaders to cause trouble and crisis in Warri and its environs.
The resource person, Mr Sylvester Okoh who spoke on Keys for sustainable peace in Warri said that sustainable peace is not an absence of conflicts but a peace that is continuous while the Executive Director of Ideal Women Advancement Initiative, Mrs Bridget Affiah who spoke on the roles of youths in Sustaining peace building and peaceful coexistence said that what is needed in Warri is peace and not division.
Some persons who spoke including Hon Adun Emmanuel, Hon Bobby Omadeli a Community Leader, Professor Andrew Agboro, Amb. Okoro Anthony and Comr Kelvin Oludewa commended CEPEJ for championing the message of peaceful coexistence in Warri and its environs.
They called on leaders of communities to be transparent and always communicate with their Subjects.
The event also featured playlet and visual presentation on the benefits of peaceful coexistence in the society as well as the setting up of the Peace Building Committee.
