Oborevwori dissolves Delta State Internal Revenue Board

Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the dissolution of the Board of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service with immediate effect.

A statement issued yesterday by the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, directed the chairman and members of the dissolved Board to hand over all government property in their possession to the career administrative head in the agency, adding that the governor’s dissolution approval would take immediate effect.

The statement reads; “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public particularly Deltans, that the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the dissolution of the Board of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service with immediate effect.

“Accordingly, the chairman and the members of the board are by this announcement directed to handover all government properties in their possession to the most senior career officer in the establishment.

“His excellency the governor, wishes to use this medium to thank members of the board for their service to the State during their tenure and to wish them well in their future endeavours,”.

This announcement came in less than two weeks after exempting it from the list of boards of state agencies and parastatals who ordered for dissolution in June.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Monday Onyeme, was the chairman of the board before he resigned to contest the 2023 governorship election in the state.

The Delta Board of Internal Revenue, DBIR was one of the eight boards of state agencies, exempted from the dissolution directive issued by the new administration on June 27, 2023.

Other parastatals exempted from the dissolution order includes the Civil Service Commission; Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC); Judicial Commission; Delta State Independent Electoral Commission; House of Assembly Service Commission; Local Government Service Commission; and Governing Councils of Educational Institutions, according to a statement issued by the SSG.
