The annual “Osanebi December Rain” giveaway, organized by former Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi, has been suspended following the tragic death of Mr. Ugo Otuya.
The decision was announced on Friday in a statement issued by Idi Presley Ifeanyichukwu, Principal Secretary to Osanebi.
According to him, the suspension comes with deep sorrow. He explained that the giveaway, which was meant to spread happiness during the festive season, cannot continue after the heartbreaking loss of one of their own. Mr. Ugo Otuya was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Kwale, an incident that has left the community shaken.
He described the killing as senseless and painful, noting that it would be inappropriate to carry on with celebrations while mourning such a loss. As a result, the “Osanebi December Rain” initiative has been put on hold until further notice.
Ifeanyichukwu emphasized that Osanebi and his team have always stood for peace and harmony within the community, making the incident even more devastating. He described Ugo Otuya as a peaceful, cheerful, and lively individual whose free-spirited nature touched everyone who knew him. He also stated that they remain in shock and are still trying to understand the motive behind the attack.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, offering prayers for strength during this difficult time and expressing hope that Ugo’s memory would remain a blessing.
The statement concluded by thanking supporters and well-wishers for their understanding and calling for peace and calm to prevail in the community.
