As part of efforts to continue the leadership come 2027, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 5 in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, under the leadership of the Chairman, Hon. Sunny Chuka Okeke on Monday February 24th, 2025 welcomed political leaders, stakeholders, party members from Uvwie LGA and decampees who left to other parties.
The sensitization and interactive event which took place on the grounds of Ugborikoko Primary School opened with the introduction of distinguished guests, comprising PDP Uvwie LGA executive committee members, wards leaders amongst others.
Hon. Sunny Chuka Okeke who is also the Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Non-indigene Traders (Delta Central and South Senatorial districts), while addressing the executive and members of PDP in Uvwie LGA and Ward 5, cited the achievements in the local government council and promised that the error in the 2023 general elections will not happen come 2027.
Hon. Okeke also welcomed the decampees in their midst who left the party but have now returned.
Speaking to YourCitiNews Political Editor, Hon. Okeke said; “The occasion serves as a welcoming back to the party our brothers that left the party to the other parties. So they came back today, we welcomed them back to the fold and they promised not to go again irrespective of the grievances because it’s about home.
“When you have problems or challenges at home, the better thing to do is to settle it in-house. And that’s what we are doing today, that’s what we’ve done today”.
In her remarks, the Mummy of Ward 5, Dame Rose Oghene appreciated the decampees and welcomed them back to the Ward. She reassured them that the Ward will be stronger than before and known for victory.
She also admonished members to be patient for their turn to enjoy the benefits of being in the party and supporting the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, having been appointed herself as SSA on Women Development by the Governor.
She went on to present wrappers to women in the ward as a token of her appreciation.
In his address, former Chairman, Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Ransome Onoyake highlighted some of the achievements of the Oborevwori-led administration pointing out also that the Delta State Government has approved the renovation of classroom blocks in Uvwie.
Hon. Onoyake thereafter presented cash gifts of N50,000 to members of the Ward that worked tirelessly during the last elections. Cash tokens of N10,000 were also distributed to women of each DSIEC Ward present at the occasion.
The final remark for the day was delivered by the PDP Chairman in Uvwie, Elder Efe Okoledo, who appealed for unity in Ward 5.
“Your work has to do with unity in Ward 5. You must come together in planning and execution”, he said.
Elder Okoledo emphasized that the ward had everything it takes to win elections. He pointed out that the youth structure in ward 5 is huge and massive, and tasked the leadership to look into this area.
He also advocated the cohesive bringing together and integration of indigenes and non-indigenes; the Ndigbos, Arewas and those from neighbouring Edo state.
The Chairman narrated how the Party is putting together the “10,000 PDP Sheriff Youth Force” from ward to ward moving into 2027. Tasking the hosting Ward 5 to produce 3,000 youths to join the movement.
In conclusion, Okoledo said the engagement was a first of its kind, happening two years before the general elections. He also promised such types of engagement would be organized quarterly in the local government using different venues. The Chairman also advocated for better results in 2027 for the PDP hence the reason for the engagement.
High point of the ceremony was the successful welcoming of the decampees and the presentation of membership cards for them to become bonafide members of the PDP.
The decampees were received by the PDP Ward 5 executive committee members in company of the leader of the Party in Uvwie, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, who is also the Chairman of Delta State Internal Revenue Services (DSIRS).
The decampees were advised to come with positive vibration and not division and to work harmoniously with the Ward 5 leadership.
Among the guests and dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Uvwie LGA Chairman, Hon. Chief Anthony O. Ofoni (JP) who was ably represented. The number one political Leader in Uvwie, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata (Leader of the party in Uvwie); Asst. Youth Leader, Comrade Igho Majemite; Leader of Legislative arm, Rt. Hon. Rire Okejera Uruesheyi; Youth Leader, Comrade Raphael Egbara; Women Leader Mrs. Gift Ikpasa; Sec Uvwie LGC, Hon. Grayham Osakwe; SSA to Governor on Security, Hon. Kingsley Irabor; Supervising Councillor, Lilian Uruesheyi, Hon. Famose Esadjere and the Party Chairman in Uvwie, Elder Efe Okoledo.
