The people of Udu Local Government Area can now breathe a sigh of relief following the commencement of remedial works on some deplorable sections of roads across the area by the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP, FCIA.
The road maintenance exercise, which began earlier today, targets critical sections such as the Express Junction Road by Ovwian Grammar School, Daddy Bakery Road, and John Jeff Road, among others.
While addressing journalists on the development, Chairman Oyibode called on the people of Udu to appreciate the Delta State Governor for the near-completion of the long-abandoned Udu Harbour Market project.
Reacting to calls for protests over the condition of roads, particularly the Express Junction Road, the Udu Council boss emphasized that dialogue and engagement are more effective than demonstrations. He revealed that he has already held discussions with the Governor, who acknowledged the strategic importance of the road not just to Udu but to Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Burutu, Patani, and Bomadi LGAs — forming a major economic corridor in the Ughelli Federal Constituency.
Oyibode also cited ongoing state government interventions such as the stone base work at Bezi Road, Aladja and reiterated the alignment of Udu Council’s developmental policy with the state’s MORE Agenda (Meaningful development, Opportunity for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security).
He urged community leaders to discourage youth from engaging in protests that may result in destruction, pointing out that Udu has no bank headquarters and any unrest could deter economic growth.
Oyibode also challenged journalists and social media practitioners to visit the council and inspect ongoing and completed projects, noting that out of the 12 expected federal allocations in a year, the council has so far received 10 and has adequately used the resources for the benefit of the people.
He thanked residents for their patience and assured that his administration will continue to work towards the holistic development of Udu Local Government Area.
