The Ugborodo Community Management Committee (UCMC) in Delta State has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revamp its voter education approach by using AI-powered comedy videos, skits, and social media platforms to better engage the public.
UCMC Secretary, Eyengho Besidone, made the remark during the launch of the ongoing voter data revalidation and continuous voter registration exercise in Akpakpa Community, Ugborodo, Delta State.
He explained that the current approach, which depends on traditional media like radio jingles, town criers, and flyers, is no longer effective in today’s Nigeria. He pointed out that a significant portion of the target audience includes Gen Z, tech-savvy youth, internally displaced persons, and residents who have lost their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), all of whom require more modern and engaging means of communication.
He recommended using AI-generated and influencer-led comedy content to simplify complex voter procedures like navigating applications and software tools by presenting them in local languages and culturally relatable formats.
Eyengho also expressed concern over the low turnout so far in Ugborodo and surrounding communities, blaming it on poor information flow and a lack of focused awareness campaigns.
He therefore urged residents in all five wards of the Ugborodo Federated Communities and more broadly, all eligible voters in Warri South-West LGA to turn out in large numbers and participate in the exercise before the deadline passes.
Eyengho said he’s hopeful that the ongoing INEC process will see better results in the coming days provided strategic changes are made, particularly by prioritizing social media engagement, tailoring messages for young people, and promoting digital access in rural areas.
