In a major boost for inmate rehabilitation, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has donated a newly built two-storey educational facility to the Warri Medium Security Custodial Centre.
Officially commissioned on Tuesday, the building will serve as a National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Study Centre, giving inmates a rare chance to pursue higher education while serving their time.
This mordern facility fully funded by Tantita is designed to give inmates access to quality education and skill building opportunities, promoting rehabilitation and a brighter future.
The event was well attended, with dignitaries from across Delta State, including representatives of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Divisional Police Officer of Ogborikoko Police Station, and Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, media aide to Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.
Speaking at the inauguration, Tantita’s Managing Director, High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Ebimorbowe Pondi, FNSE, FNIIS, stated that the project reflects the company’s belief that true security goes beyond safeguarding assets it’s also about making a positive impact on lives.
The newly constructed building features eight fully equipped classrooms, an administrative office, modern restrooms, a borehole water system, and a solar-powered inverter. Pondi highlighted that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s 2019 reforms, which rebranded Nigerian prisons as correctional centres to emphasize rehabilitation and reintegration over punishment.
He praised the Nigerian Correctional Service for its partnership and gave special recognition to the Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Warri Custodial Centre, DCC Richard Egbede, for his strong support.
The Warri project comes on the heels of Tantita’s recent renovation of the historic Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna, which was commissioned last week by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
At the inauguration, stakeholders hailed the new educational facility as a symbol of hope, noting that it will equip inmates with the knowledge and skills needed for successful reintegration into society—ultimately helping to reduce repeat offenses.
Through this initiative, Tantita has once again shown its commitment to nation-building, going beyond its core security duties to demonstrate that real progress requires both vigilance and empathy.
