Burna Boy Makes Grammy History with Fifth Album Nomination; African Music Dominates Categories

Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy has achieved a remarkable new milestone, becoming the first Nigerian artist to secure five career Grammy nominations specifically in album categories. His latest critically acclaimed project, No Sign of Weakness (2025), has been nominated for Best Global Music Album at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards.

This latest nod further solidifies Burna Boy’s consistent presence on the global stage, adding to his impressive list of previously Grammy-nominated albums: African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020), Love, Damini (2022), and I Told Them (2023).

The Best Global Music Album category features a diverse and esteemed international lineup. Burna Boy will compete against Siddhant Bhatia’s Sounds of Kumbha, Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour’s Éclairer le monde: Light the World, Shakti’s Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live), Chapter III: We Return to Light by Anoushka Shankar featuring Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, and Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo by Brazilian icons Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.

Beyond the album categories, Burna Boy also secured an additional nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for his track “Love,” underscoring his widespread influence across the continent.

Nigerian acts continued their strong showing in the Best African Music Performance category. Davido earned recognition for his collaborative track “With You,” featuring Omah Lay, while the vibrant “Gimme Dat” garnered nominations for both Ayra Starr and Wizkid. The category is rounded out by “Hope & Love” from Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, and the buzzworthy “Push 2 Start” by South African star Tyla.

These extensive nominations collectively highlight the escalating global influence of African music, with Nigerian artistes demonstrably leading this powerful cultural charge. The winners of the 2025 Grammy Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles next year.
