Following an attack on police officers at the boundary between Akukwu-Igbo and Ugbolu communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, has ordered the immediate deployment of operatives to the area to restore calm, maintain public order, and reassure residents.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe.
The statement said that swift police action led to the arrest of several suspects during a sting operation. The suspects are currently in custody and have already provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The attack is said to have taken place on January 30, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation along Ogbofu Road. A team from the Akukwu-Igbo Division, led by an ASP and accompanied by four other officers, was reportedly ambushed by attackers armed with machetes.
One officer is said to have suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Asaba for urgent treatment.
CP Adesola, in a strongly worded response, warned that attacks on police officers would not be tolerated under his leadership. He further stressed that no extremist, secessionist, or violent groups would be allowed to operate in the state, adding that the command would deal decisively with anyone or group that threatens public peace or targets law enforcement personnel.
The police commissioner assured residents of the command’s proactive approach and unwavering commitment to safety, the rule of law, and the protection of lives and property.
Members of the public were urged to remain calm and to provide credible information that could help apprehend other suspects still at large through the Control Room on 0803 668 4974 or other appropriate channels.
