DELSU Launches Full-Scale Classroom & Laboratory Renovation Under VC Asagba’s Leadership

The Delta State University (DELSU) at Abraka has begun a comprehensive renovation of its classrooms and laboratories as part of the newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba’s strategy to elevate the institution’s academic and research profile.

The initiative showcases DELSU’s renewed focus on infrastructure, innovation and institutional excellence.

In his statements to the press, Prof. Asagba revealed that the transformation will target long-neglected blocks across the campus. He provided details of his mission, which includes “constructing modern lecture halls, laboratories, workshops and offices” and ensuring reliable utilities like water and power supply.

Photographic evidence released by the university shows workers clearing debris in dilapidated classrooms and installing brand-new desks in labs that previously lacked equipment.

The visible changes, including fresh flooring, revamped desks and wiring, have already generated positive reactions among the student body and campus community.

Students have taken to social media to express relief. One post read: “Finally a cleanse,” underscoring the sense of overdue infrastructure renewal and hope for improved learning spaces.

These reactions reflect deep frustration with years of under-maintenance and highlight the expectations surrounding the new renovation drive.

The renovation forms part of a broader strategic blueprint rolled out by Asagba shortly after his appointment in December 2024.

The plan emphasises sustainable growth, digital transformation and global competitiveness.

Infrastructure is a major pillar of this agenda, which also addresses staffing, revenue diversification and research commercialisation.

Campus observers say the work will not only improve daily academic experience but also signal to prospective students, faculty and research partners that DELSU is serious about being “a centre of academic excellence” as envisioned by the VC.

With active project monitoring and external funding efforts underway, DELSU aims to raise its institutional ranking and attract collaboration opportunities.

As this renovation progresses, DELSU’s leadership and stakeholders are hopeful the campus upgrades will translate into better graduate outcomes, stronger research outputs and enhanced reputation.
