The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Isoko Ring Road project on schedule, assuring residents that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is determined to deliver the road as part of his administration’s MORE Agenda.
Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, gave the assurance on Thursday during an inspection of the 24-kilometre Ellu/Ovrode/Ofagbe/Orie-Irri/Okpe-Isoko/Uro-Irri/Ada-Irri Road, which includes 10.8 kilometres of drainage works.
Izeze noted that despite challenges posed by prolonged rainfall, visible progress had been achieved. He recalled that during the Governor’s last inspection in March, the site was still largely sand-filled, but has since advanced with levelling, embankments, and over one kilometre of spreading in Section 1 already completed.
“The pace may appear slow due to heavy rains, but the progress is commendable. With the Governor’s backing and the upward review of the contract by the State Executive Council, we expect the contractor to ramp up work. The people of Isoko are eager to see this road delivered,” Izeze said.
Contractor handling the project, Mr. Ifeanyi Nkeki, reported that about 16 kilometres of the 21-kilometre stretch have been completed across Sections A, B, and C, with only five kilometres outstanding. He revealed that critical technical challenges — including a bridge, swampy terrain, and major culverts — have been resolved, adding that completion is targeted for December 2025.
Meanwhile, Izeze also inspected other strategic works: the 1-kilometre Flood and Erosion Control project at Beneku/Okpai Road and the Beneku-Kwale Bridge with approach roads linking Ndokwa West and Ndokwa East.
He tasked contractors to expedite the wearing course to prepare the projects for commissioning.
