Residents of Christ Abude Street, located across the Asaba–Benin Expressway and opposite the former Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office in Asaba, have praised Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the ongoing construction of a drainage system in the area.
Mr. Chinedu Ose, a laundry shop owner, expressed his delight over the project. He said the road had been in very poor condition for years, often becoming heavily flooded whenever it rained especially at the street’s entrance. According to him, residents were usually forced to divert through another street before they could access the area.
Mr. Ose noted that the drainage construction has now addressed the long-standing problem. He explained that proper drainage is essential to controlling flooding before any road rehabilitation can be done. He added that the drainage will run on both sides of the road, after which the road will be tarred, making it accessible even during the rainy season.
Similarly, Mrs. Gift Akpese, a shop owner in the area, described the project as a welcome development for residents and business owners. She acknowledged that some shops have been temporarily affected and unable to operate due to the construction, but emphasized that everyone remains happy because the work is for their collective benefit. Mrs. Akpese recalled that the area was usually flooded during rainfall because there was no drainage system, but expressed optimism that the new development will ensure smooth access to the road going forward.
