The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) 2025 Batch B Stream II to uphold the values of hard work, integrity, and innovation as they embark on their one-year national service.
Represented by Barr. Harry ThankGod Trakiriowei, the governor made this charge during the official closing ceremony of the orientation course held at the Issele-Uku NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp on Tuesday.
The event marked the end of a three-week program that trained over 1,000 corps members in leadership, entrepreneurship, community service, and national integration.
Governor Oborevwori commended the corps members for their discipline and commitment throughout the exercise, urging them to serve as ambassadors of unity and agents of positive change in their host communities.
He emphasized that national service goes beyond routine assignments — it is about building resilience, promoting peace, and contributing to grassroots development amid Nigeria’s ongoing security and economic challenges.
“Be vigilant, disciplined, and community-minded. The Delta State Government stands with you in ensuring that your service year is productive, safe, and impactful,” he said.
The governor’s representative further noted that the NYSC initiative aligns with the MORE Agenda’s pillar of Meaningful Development, which prioritizes youth empowerment through skills training, social innovation, and entrepreneurship.
He highlighted that the administration has already supported thousands of Delta youths through SDG-linked programs and digital skill initiatives, aimed at reducing youth unemployment — which, according to the 2024 National Bureau of Statistics, stands at 25 percent in Delta State.
The ceremony, which featured march-pasts, parades, and cultural displays, captured corps members in their iconic green and white uniforms, celebrating their readiness to serve with dedication and patriotic zeal.
