Peter Obi Pays Courtesy Visit to Asagba of Asaba

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Gregory Obi, on Friday, paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge (SAN), where the revered monarch described him as a longstanding family friend and brother of over 30 years.

The visit, which took place at the Asagba’s palace, was marked by warm exchanges of mutual respect and appreciation, underscoring the enduring bond between the two prominent figures.

Receiving Mr Obi and his entourage in audience, the Asagba expressed deep gratitude for the visit, noting that it came despite the former Anambra State governor’s demanding schedule.

“All we can say is that you are a good man, and if given the opportunity, we can also say without equivocation that you will offer good leadership at any point in time,” HRM Azinge declared.

The Monarch who fondly referred to Mr Obi as “Okwute Igbo” described the visit as a “fidelity of friendship” and an honour not only to him personally but to the people of Asaba and the entire palace institution.

In his response, Mr Obi thanked Asagba of Asaba for the warm reception, stressing that the visit was purely to show respect and regard for the traditional ruler as an outstanding elder brother who has continued to serve the Asaba community with distinction.

He emphasised the need to give the monarch all necessary support to succeed in his role, describing Prof. Azinge as a pillar of progress for Asaba.

The encounter highlighted the continued significance of traditional institutions in Nigerian socio-political life, as well as personal ties that transcend political affiliations.
