Residents of Ughelli North Local Government Area turned out in large numbers on Wednesday to benefit from a free medical outreach organized by Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, in partnership with the National Health Fellow. The outreach took place at the Council Secretariat.
During the event, participants were screened for tuberculosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and hepatitis. They also received chest X-rays, and individuals with eye issues were given free reading glasses.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the National Health Fellow, Onome Sandra Ugbarugba, explained, “We’re conducting blood sugar tests for diabetes, providing free reading glasses, distributing medication, and offering hepatitis and TB screening for those present.”
We plan to attend to at least 200 people, and this is a great opportunity for the residents of Ughelli North to come out and check their health status. Early detection is key to preventing more serious health issues down the line.
One of the beneficiaries of the free medical outreach in Ughelli, Mrs. Omohwo Esther, a Vice Principal at Government College, shared her experience:
“I only heard about the free medical outreach this morning, and I immediately decided to take advantage of it.
When I arrived, I was amazed to see that they were offering free reading glasses, chest X-rays, and several other services—it was honestly a pleasant surprise.
I really want to appreciate Senator Ede Dafinone for bringing this initiative to our community. Anyone who has gone to the hospital just to get a pair of glasses knows how expensive it can be, but here, it’s all free. It’s a big relief.”
Another beneficiary, Mr. Efe Akpotor, shared his reason for attending the outreach:
“I came mainly because I’ve been dealing with a persistent cough for over a month. But when I got here, I realized they were conducting several other tests as well, so I decided to take part in those too.
I saw it as an opportunity and took advantage of it. I even received a free pair of reading glasses—everything was completely free.
I’m really grateful to Senator Ede Dafinone for caring about the health of his constituents. I hope he continues with initiatives like this because we’re looking forward to more from him.”
Also speaking, Mrs. Onosegboma Vero praised the senator, saying:
“I came specifically to get tested for diabetes and hepatitis, and after the check-up, the medical team confirmed that everything was normal.
I’m truly grateful to the senator for making the effort to bring this free medical outreach to Ughelli North. I pray that God continues to bless him for this thoughtful gesture.”
