Earlier today, Barr. Mrs. Ajede Betty Chineye, Chairperson of Ukwuani Local Government Council, officially launched the Ukwuani Girl Child Skills Acquisition Programme in celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
In her keynote speech, Barr. Mrs. Ajede expressed gratitude to Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the wife of the Delta State Governor, for her ongoing and impactful support for women and, especially, the girl child throughout the state.
She also thanked the Executive Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government, Hon. (Barr.) C.S Possible Ajede, for making the empowerment of the Ukwuani girl child through skill acquisition a top priority—an effort that aligns closely with the DO MORE AGENDA’s focus on Human Capital Development and Empowerment for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
During her address, the Ukwuani First Lady highlighted this year’s International Day of the Girl Child theme: “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”
She pointed out that the theme not only captures the identity of the girl child but also highlights her potential—what she can become and achieve, even in the toughest situations.
She went on to say that it’s both powerful and inspiring to see how girls around the world have shown remarkable courage and leadership—whether it’s standing up for education, fighting for equality, protecting their communities during conflict, or speaking out against injustice.
Mrs. Ajede also encouraged the Ukwuani girl child to take full advantage of the skills acquisition program, urging them to gain practical skills, empower themselves, and become independent.
