Wolves Table €20m Bid for Nigerian Star Christantus Uche

Wolverhampton Wanderers have made the first concrete move in the race to sign Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche, submitting an initial offer of €20 million to his current club, Getafe.

The Premier League side is aiming to secure the services of the Super Eagles player before the summer transfer window closes.

In a statement on Monday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Wolves are actively engaged in discussions with both Getafe and the player’s representatives to finalise a deal promptly.

“Wolves have submitted an official bid to Getafe worth €20m for Christantus Uche. Negotiations underway to get deal done as Wolves Wolverhampton want new striker asap. Talks ongoing with player’s camp, as Liam Keen (Wolves correspondent) reports”, Romano statement read.

While Getafe is hesitant to sell one of its key players, the club’s precarious financial situation may force it to consider the sale.

The Spanish club is reportedly facing challenges in registering new signings due to La Liga’s strict financial regulations. Offloading Uche, whose market value has risen sharply, is seen as a viable solution to alleviate these financial pressures.

The 22-year-old midfielder’s release clause is set at €25 million, a significant increase from the €500,000 Getafe originally paid for him.

His impressive performances have attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, including Everton, Brentford, Leeds United, and Real Sociedad. Everton was previously considered the frontrunner, having been linked with a €30 million bid.

Despite Getafe’s president, Ángel Torres, expressing a desire to keep Uche, he acknowledged that the club might have to accept offers to resolve their registration issues.

Although Wolves’ initial bid is below the player’s release clause, negotiations are expected to continue as the club works to complete the transfer.
