Delta judiciary approves special courts for offenders of environmental laws - WUEDA DG

The Director General, Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, (WUEDA), Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere says the Delta State judiciary has approved the setting up of five mobile courts in the agency’s mandate areas.

The mobile court is meant to prosecute and sanction offenders of environmental laws. Ejinyere disclosed this when he played host to the Chairman and members of the State Waste Management Board, (DSWMB), who paid him a familiarization visit in his office at Effurun.

He said the approach of the mobile courts would be slightly different, but refined according to best practices, “to ensure that every resident complied with environmental laws, as offenders who dumped refuse or parked vehicles indiscriminately would be severely penalized within the existing legal framework.”

He told the Waste Management Board team that he had earlier met with the Private Sector Participants, (PSP) to fashion out ways to achieve effective waste management in the Agency’s mandate areas. He appreciated the board for its commitment to achieving the development mandate of the State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, assuring that he would be readily available any time his attention was needed.

Earlier, the Chairman of the DSWMB, Hon. Emmanuel Chinye, revealed that the visit was meant to fashion out ways the two government institutions could partner to achieve a common goal.
