Flood Disaster: Delta Fish Farmers Cry for Help

Due to a heavy rainfall on Monday, a devastating flood has destroyed the Awai Camp 74 fish farms in Asaba, Delta State, leaving it in ruins.

The fall caused the Awai River to overflow, washing away farms and investments worth over 30 million Naira.

The affected fish farmers, mostly retired civil servants supported by the Delta State Government to venture into fish farming, are now crying out for help.

The devastated farmers, has called on the Delta State Government, stakeholders and well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid.

“We have lost everything, and we don’t know how to start again. We invested our all, including the assistance from the State Government, but it’s all gone. We’re begging our beloved Governor to help us out of this helpless situation,” one of the farmers cried.

Assistance in the form of financial aid, infrastructure development, or market access could be instrumental in reviving their livelihoods and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the fish farms.
