The Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, has called for responsible and evidence-based public discourse, particularly on social media, as he defended his administration against recent criticisms.
Olorogun Oyibode in a statement issued by his office while responding to issues raised on the Udu Kingdom WhatsApp group challenged critics to back their claims with verifiable facts, including details of allocations rather than spreading unsubstantiated allegations.
“We must not talk what we cannot defend,” the council boss declared, stressing the need for integrity and accountability in public conversations.
The Udu Council chairman cautioned against hasty comparisons between different administrations, warning that such evaluations require a proper understanding of contextual factors and key variables, not superficial judgments.

While frowning at unwarranted interference in his administrative duties under the pretext of social media activism, he noted that governance should not be trivialised.
Olorogun Oyibode acknowledged that constructive criticism is essential for good governance but cautioned that it must not descend into destructive attacks or character assassination, which could attract legal consequences.
“Good governance encourages criticism, but it must be constructive, not destructive, and not amount to character assassination,” he added.
He urged residents to channel their energies towards issues that promote development, mutual benefits and unity rather than those driven by envy or personal vendettas.
