[OPINION] BBC documentary and the deliberate falsehood against Prophet TB Joshua

[OPINION] BBC documentary and the deliberate falsehood against Prophet TB Joshua

It is a universally observed phenomenon that the bones of the fallen should be treated with respect and accorded the dignity that was their proper due. Sadly however, in line with very recent happenings which outrightly negates the above belief, considering the recent documentary by British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) against late founder of Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), late Temitope Babatunde Joshua, known as TB Joshua. Prophet TB Joshua was a light to the body of Christ and the Christendom in Nigeria.

I strongly condemn the biased and unethical reporting by the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC’s Africa Eye in their portrayal of the highly revered late Prophet Temitope B. Joshua, the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN). That lopsided documentary unjustly tarnishes the reputation of a man widely known for his piety, kindness, and unwavering commitment to spiritual and humanitarian causes.

Prophet T.B. Joshua dedicated his life to uplifting the vulnerable and marginalized in society. He rescued countless children from destitution, provided refuge and support to individuals in dire circumstances, and played a pivotal role in rehabilitating former criminals and street urchins. His philanthropic efforts, including the establishment of hospitals, schools, and a far-reaching welfare program, have positively impacted the lives of thousands around the world.

The BBC’s failure to uphold journalistic integrity and impartiality is deeply concerning. And quite disappointing. Investigative reporting should be rooted in truth, fairness, and adherence to ethical standards. However, the documentary falls short of these fundamental principles by presenting a card-stacked and unverified narrative that contradicts the well-established legacy of the saintly Prophet T.B. Joshua.

The sensational documentary not only disrespects the memory of a compassionate and extraordinary individual but also undermines the trust and credibility of responsible journalism. It is a disservice to the public and a betrayal of the principles that underpin the profession of journalism.

From the innermost recess of my heart, I call upon the BBC to reflect on the ethical breaches evident in the documentary and to take corrective actions immediately. The media industry must uphold the highest standards of integrity and accuracy, and the portrayal of individuals, especially those who have made significant contributions to society, should be approached with care, courtesy, and utmost objectivity.

The biased and unfair reportage presented by the BBC is not only an affront to the legacy of Prophet T.B. Joshua but also a disturbing lack of familiarity with the tenets of public trust. It is a disheartening display of journalistic misconduct and an injustice to the memory of a man who devoted his life to serving God and man.
