A sad accident happened on the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba, which is the capital of Delta State. Four people died, and three others were hurt badly. The injured are getting help at St. Rebecca Hospital.
The accident took place on Monday and involved a cement truck loaded with cargo and two other cars. People who saw it say the truck, which belongs to BUA Group, was going too fast as it approached the bridge. It lost control, overturned, and crashed into the two smaller vehicles.
Emergency workers, including people from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), arrived quickly at the scene.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Delta State, Mr. Frederick Ogidan, said the accident was caused by the truck driver going over the speed limit.
He said four people were found dead at the scene. He also clarified that the truck was a BUA cement truck, not a Dangote one, as some had thought. The victims were stuck in the cars because of the crash, so rescue teams had to use a tow truck to get them out.
He was worried that such a serious accident could happen on a bridge that should be safe, showing how dangerous it is to drive recklessly.
The three injured people are still being treated at St. Rebecca Hospital, which is on Nnebisi Road in Asaba.
Officials are now telling drivers to follow speed limits and be careful, especially on important roads like the Second Niger Bridge, to stop similar accidents from happening.
This recent tragedy has made people more worried, especially since it happened shortly after reports showed that heavy trucks have been involved in many accidents on the highway.
The incident caused a lot of anger on social media and even led to a protest organized by social media personality Very Darkman.
Many Nigerians are now questioning the safety of heavy trucks linked to the Dangote Group.
