Delta Government Awards CCECC Contract for Major Reconstruction of Warri–Sapele–Benin Road Section

The Delta State Government has approved and awarded a major road reconstruction project to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), signaling a fresh step in its drive to modernize infrastructure and ease traffic flow across the state.

The contract, approved through the State Tenders Board, covers the reconstruction of the dual carriageway from the Spare Parts Market U-turn in Effurun to just before Omenta Bridge, after Ohore Junction, along the busy Warri–Sapele–Benin Road corridor.

According to project details, the new design will feature:

An expanded pavement width of 8.8 metres

2.8 metres reinforced concrete shoulders on both sides

12 kilometres of stormwater concrete drainage systems, complete with discharge channels

The government confirmed that the project will be executed within 12 months, and when completed, will provide a durable, safer, and more efficient roadway. The reconstruction is also expected to complement the ongoing network of flyover projects stretching from DSC Roundabout to Ohore Junction, further reducing congestion in the area.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, while announcing the development, emphasized that the road upgrade will not only boost trade but also improve the daily experiences of commuters and businesses.

“This project is designed to deliver a modern and long-lasting road that addresses the challenges faced by motorists along this corridor. It reflects our commitment to easing traffic, boosting commerce, and improving the quality of life for our people,” he said.

In a related development, the Federal Ministry of Works has also awarded the rehabilitation of the Benin–Asaba Expressway, from Summit Junction to the Niger Bridge Head, to Hartland Nigeria Limited. That project, like the Effurun reconstruction, will adopt reinforced concrete technology to ensure durability.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his pledge to remain a “listening leader,” stressing that his administration will continue to respond promptly to the needs of citizens while laying down infrastructure that supports sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

“With projects like these, we are not just fixing roads—we are building a stronger, more connected Delta,” the Governor added.
