Public hospitals across Delta State are recording significant improvements in service delivery, patient care, and staff performance, following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s ongoing health sector reforms under the MORE Agenda for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
Chairman of the Delta State Hospital Management Board (HMB), Dr. Paul Oweh, disclosed this during a recent monitoring and evaluation tour of selected medical facilities, including Government Hospital, Agbarho; General Hospital, Orerokpe; and General Hospital, Ekpan.
Speaking after the inspection, Dr. Oweh praised the professionalism and dedication of both medical and non-medical personnel, noting that the positive changes observed were clear evidence of the state government’s strategic investments in healthcare infrastructure, modern medical equipment, and workforce motivation.
“What we are witnessing today is a direct outcome of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to revitalizing the health sector,” he said.
“Hospitals visited have shown remarkable progress in patient care, staff discipline, and operational management. This transformation demonstrates what happens when leadership places health at the centre of its development agenda.”
Dr. Oweh explained that the exercise formed part of the government’s ongoing measures to ensure accountability, efficiency, and sustainability in public hospital administration. He added that the inspection also focused on assessing the implementation of the state’s free maternal and under-five healthcare programmes, which continue to provide essential services to vulnerable groups across Delta.
The HMB Chairman commended the management teams of the visited hospitals for their cooperation and urged them to sustain the renewed momentum, maintain high professional standards, and continue prioritizing patient welfare.
He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to supporting the Governor’s vision of delivering accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to all Deltans through sustained supervision, capacity-building, and continuous facility upgrades.
