Willams Ekong

William Troost-Ekong, the captain of the Super Eagles, urged Nigerian fans to continue supporting the team on Wednesday, September 3, as they prepare for two crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa, which are scheduled for next week.

‎Yesterday in Uyo, before Coach Eric Chelle brought together all 23 selected players for camp, Ekong said the team is very focused on the upcoming games and wants to get all six points from the matches against Rwanda and South Africa.

‎He said, “The players are very focused and ready for the match on Saturday (against Rwanda). I want to thank the fans for their constant support. I encourage them to keep cheering us on, come to the stadium on Saturday, keep praying for us, and stay united with all the people in Nigeria.”

‎Ekong, who plays as a central defender for Al Kholood in the Saudi Arabia Pro League, said the Super Eagles understand how important it is to win both matches.
‎The first game is against Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday, and the next one is against South Africa in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.

‎He told reporters before heading to the evening training session at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, “This series of matches is really important for us, starting on Saturday.

‎The final group of players to join the camp includes Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, new Fulham forward Samuel Chukwueze, Wolves’ new striker Tolu Arokodare, Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge, and Crystal Palace’s Christantus Uche.

‎The Super Eagles had their first 15-minute training session inside the main bowl of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
