Delta State Earmarks N50bn for Health in 2026 Budget

The Delta State Government has earmarked N50.067 billion for the health sector in the proposed 2026 Budget, Governor Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori announced on Wednesday while presenting the appropriation bill to the Delta State House of Assembly in Asaba.

During the presentation, Governor Oborevwori highlighted that a strong healthcare system is crucial for economic and industrial development especially in a state with a largely youthful population. He noted that Delta State currently operates 441 Primary Health Care Centres, 65 General Hospitals, and 3 Tertiary Health Facilities.

He also commended the progress of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), which now covers more than 2.7 million beneficiaries, achieving 48.43% coverage in 2025, a major increase from 27.64% in 2023, and the highest in Nigeria.

Key health projects captured in the proposed budget include:

  • Procurement of 32-slide and 64-slide CT scans for Central Hospital, Warri, and DELSUTH, Oghara
  • Installation of nine ventilators in four hospitals
  • Delivery of an Echocardiography machine to DELSUTH
  • Establishment of a new Dialysis Centre at Asaba Specialist Hospital
  • Creation of new Intensive Care Units (ICUs) at Central Hospital, Warri, and Central Hospital, Sapele
  • Orders placed for three MRI machines for Asaba Specialist Hospital, Central Hospital Warri, and DELSUTH

The Governor added that several health facilities across the state are currently under construction, renovation, or upgrading. These include Primary Healthcare Centres in Okuama (Ughelli South), Oghior (Udu LGA), and Torugbene (Burutu LGA), as well as the 100-Bed Maternal and Child Centre (MCC) in Ekpan, Uvwie LGA. Projects at tertiary institutions like the College of Medical Sciences, University of Delta, Agbor, are also ongoing.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to providing equitable, affordable, and sustainable healthcare, ensuring that every Deltan has access to quality medical services.
