Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has returned to Germany after his potential transfer to AC Milan, a Serie A club, was put on hold following medical tests in Italy.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, in a statement on his social media pages on Sunday, said the 24-year-old spent 48 hours in Milan undergoing medical examinations with AC Milan but has not yet received a “green light” or the move.
Boniface, who plays for German club Bayer Leverkusen, has now returned to Leverkusen and is awaiting AC Milan’s final decision.
Romano added that the results of the medical checks, conducted over the weekend, are being reviewed by the Italian club’s medical staff.
The reason for the delay has not been officially disclosed, but it has created uncertainty around the highly anticipated transfer.
The Nigerian international’s potential move to AC Milan has been a topic of intense speculation in the transfer market.
However, with the medical results pending, both clubs and the player are in a state of limbo. Boniface’s return to Germany suggests that the immediate transfer is not progressing as smoothly as initially expected.
All parties involved are now awaiting an imminent decision from AC Milan, which will determine whether the transfer will be finalised or called off.

The situation remains fluid, and further updates are expected as the Italian club concludes its assessment of the medical reports.
The holdup is thought to be linked to the player’s injury record, notably two cruciate ligament ruptures at Bodø/Glimt in 2019 and persistent muscle problems, leading Milan to proceed carefully.
The agreement under discussion between Leverkusen and Milan features a €5 million loan charge alongside a €24 million buy option.
Romano said, “After medical tests at AC Milan, Victor Boniface returns to Germany, as there’s still no green light to his move. After 48 hours in Milano, Boniface will be back in Leverkusen today, waiting for AC Milan’s imminent decision on his medical tests/checks made over the weekend.”
