DESOPADEC Intensifies Flood Control Efforts in Sapele

The flood control initiative undertaken by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment continued actively in Sapele Metropolis on Friday, August 8.

The extensive de-silting and removal of waste and debris persisted on Okpe Road, one of the busiest thoroughfares in Sapele Metropolis, as crews worked to clear the drainage systems on both sides, utilizing pay loaders and tipper trucks for the evacuation of sand and refuse.

Chief Bright Abeke, the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, spearheaded a team from the Sapele Local Government task force to ensure the removal of illegal structures obstructing drainages.

Additionally, pay loaders and tipper trucks were observed actively clearing blocked drainages and removing debris on Lawrence Street and Major Bowen Road.

The Commission also addressed the excavation and removal of debris from one of the largest illegal dumping sites located in the Reclamation area of Sapele.

According to the Local Government Chairman, the clearing of this site, which had been a significant challenge for the Local Government Council, provided much-needed relief as excavators and tipper lorries transported the waste to an approved disposal site outside of Sapele Metropolis.
