The Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, has praised the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Alumni Association for keeping the spirit of academic excellence alive. He encouraged members to keep promoting the university as one of the best institutions in Nigeria.
On Thursday, Prof. Azinge praised the Asaba Chapter of the UNILAG Alumni Association when they visited him at his palace in Asaba. The group was led by their Chapter President, Mr. Patrick Olisa Dibie.
In welcoming the visitors, the monarch said their visit was both meaningful and well-timed. He urged the alumni to embody the university’s values in the way they serve their communities.
In his speech, Mr. Dibie apologized for the delay in making the courtesy visit and asked the royal father to continue showing the same kindness and support to the Asaba Chapter of the Alumni Association that he has demonstrated throughout his impressive career.
On behalf of the group, Rt. Hon. Ovie Agas presented gifts to the monarch and handed him a letter from the national body of the association, formally inviting the Asagba to Lagos on October 12, 2025, to receive a national award.
In response, Prof. Azinge expressed his appreciation for the kind gesture and spoke proudly of Asaba’s reputation as a city of peace and prosperity. He said, “We take great pride in being the leaders here in Asaba, one of the fastest-growing capital cities not just in Nigeria, but in all of sub-Saharan Africa. Asaba is a land of blessings, and it’s that same blessing I’m sharing with all of you.”
The highlight of the visit was a group photo. Among the UNILAG delegates were Barr. M.O. Nwamu, Elder C. Ngemegwai, Obi Henry Kikachukwu, Prof. Benjamin Oghojafor, Dr. Derick Eke, Barr. Bridget Anyafulu, Barr. Princess Ajudua, Barr. Emmanuel Diei, Barrister Michael Nwamu, Elder Cyril Ngemegwai, and Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas.
